THE WAY OF REMEMBERING
PROGRAM SUMMARY
This study tour highlights slavery and
spirituality, with profound emphasis on the practice of voodoo religion, the
national religion of the Republic of Benin, the birthplace of this ancient form
of worship.
The 8 days study program
includes:

A half-day workshop of
lectures and a film show highlighting African history, slavery, religion and
culture under the theme “THE WAY OF REMEMBERING: RITES-RITUALS AND SYMBOLISM”
provided by representatives of PROMETRA and dignitaries from Benin to prepare
participants to understand and participate in the various activities of the
study program. Lunch will be served;

Full day tour to Ouidah with
lectures at PROMETRA's Diaspora Bridge Project, “The
Door of Return” (La Porte de Retour), rites and ceremonies at the Monument of
Mother Africa and the Column of Liberty, a guided visit of the museum, and
sacrificial ceremonies. Lunch will be served;

Visit to Kpakossou Temple at
Aklakou, Togo for voodoo rituals and ceremonies;Visit to Grand Popo with
lunch, to experience the mystical powers of ten different Zangbetos groups -
experimentation of the relationship that exists between the soul of man and the
soul of the environment;

Worship at a Voodoo Thron
Church to experience another form of voodoo spirituality rituals and ceremony;
